When Do I Call 911?

ONLY CALL 911 FOR AN EMERGENCY

An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance.

Examples include:

To Report a Crime
To Prevent a Crime
To Report a Fire
Someone is Injured
Life and Death Situations
Medical Emergencies such as someone who is unconscious, gasping for air, not breathing, experiencing an allergic reaction, having chest pain, having uncontrollable bleeding, or any other symptoms that requires immediate medical attention.

DO NOT Call 9-1-1:

To report telephone, cable, or power outages
To inquire about weather, road conditions

What if I need police, but it's

NOT an emergency?

If I need the police, but it's not an emergency, what number do I call?

If you need law enforcement assistance but it is not of an emergency nature, please call our non-emergency line at (575) 437-2210.

Examples of calls that should be placed to the non-emergency line are:

Traffic accidents that do not involve injuries
Loud music or barking dogs
To report a crime that is no longer in progress and does not require an immediate response
To report missing property
Requests for information
To report the malfunctioning of traffic signals
