Solid Waste
Who We Are
Otero County Solid Waste is an actively involved agency dealing with waste reduction and recycling as we manage our landfills into a more earth friendly environment for the present and for our future. We have 4 manned sites and several unmanned sites located throughout Otero County for you to utilize. We can be seen as far as Chaparral as we branch up through Alamogordo to Tularosa extending out to our outer communities in Bent, Weed and Pinon - not to mention all the sites in between each locale.
Earth Friendly Reduction, Reusing & Recycling
Waste that is created begins with each one of us in our own capacity. It's always great to reduce the vast amounts of waste generated on a daily basis. But when we must forego reduction, we often turn to reusing and recycling. We encourage common recycling practices that can be done easily at home, at work or in the neighborhood. Below are items that you can save from going into the local landfills where it can be turned into recycled products later.
- Aluminum Cans
- Auto and Motorcycle Batteries
- Brush
- Cardboard
- Mixed Paper
- Plastic number 1 and number 2
- Scrap Metal
- Tin Cans
- Tires
- Used Motor Oil
We then take these sorted items to recycling centers so they have a new beginning as another product and thus reduce waste from our precious landfills.
