I’VE BEEN MONETARILY AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY MY PROPERTY TAXES RIGHT NOW?

The County Treasurers of New Mexico put in a request to NM Taxation and Revenue for an extension, but the request was denied, therefore second half taxes are due April 10th, 2020 and late after May 11, 2020. If you are unable to afford to pay your taxes at this time, you should know that the penalty and interest, that we are required by law to charge, is only 2%. Penalty and interest is only charged after the 10th of every month and that charge is not compounded.  For example, if your tax bill is $500.00 and you have to wait till June 9th to pay it, you will only be charged $10.00 extra.  That is much cheaper than any credit card.  You can also make small, more affordable payments and you will only be charged penalty and interest on the delinquent portion.  Your property will not be auctioned because you are slightly behind on your taxes, in fact, property is not turned over to the state for auction until it is 3 years delinquent.

I am sorry that the constraints of the law do not allow us to make more provisions, but we are here to help you.  Please call our office at 575-437-2030 if you have any questions!  We are here to help!
